The Miliner 1.3

The third studio design project was once again based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, but this time it was based in the centre, on the old Newcastle city walls. These walls have been around since the 13-14th century and have crumbled over time. We were asked to design a shop for a user which is specialised in a certain industry. I was given a user that specialised in hat making (a Milliner). I was assigned a specific plot along the city wall which I had to work around and I was only allowed to use nine meters squared of space for the floor plan. This meant I was really limited for space and had to utilise the space to be as functional and efficient as possible. When designing the shop, I wanted to have as much natural light flooding into the building to help the Milliner. I was clever about my design and created a space, suspended above the city wall, which does not add to the total area due to the height and size of the space. The interior was the main focus for this project and I learned a lot about ergonomics. I studied the average sizes of humans and was able to change and develop the internal space because of this research. I learned a lot about Photoshop due to me putting it into context using people to help you understand the size and scale of my design.
