The Pavilion 1.2

For the second studio (1.2) project we were asked to design and create an external or internal pavilion. The design of this pavilion had to be designed around our given building from the first project (1.1). The pavilion was a temporary space which could hold art conventions and could be used for display purposes. The twist that was given to make this project more intriguing was that we were only allowed to use wooden sticks for our model making, limiting what the final concept could be made from.

I decided that for my pavilion design I should contrast the façade of the Northern Stage to make it stand out. The Northern Stage is a very symmetrical and square building so from the very beginning of this project I decided that my pavilion should be more curved or less square. This is where the hexagonal design came from. I also was able to laser cut scale 1:20 figures/silhouettes which is the same scale of the model. By doing this project I learned a lot about wood and its properties due to research I conducted. I learned a lot about pavilions and how they have multiple uses and are not limited when it comes to their design due to being a temporary structure.
